Criticism has once again been directed at Mikel Mourinho.

Chelsea lost 1-4 to Manchester United in the 32nd round (net) of the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) season at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, at 4 a.m. ET on Saturday. Without a point, Chelsea remained in 12th place.

Motivation was hard to come by for Chelsea. With European qualification already out of the question and a mid-table finish assured, there was no strong desire to pick up the three points. United, on the other hand, needed the points to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

The difference in aspirations soon translated into results. Chelsea dominated possession, but never felt like they were in control of the game. Instead, United took the lead through Casemiro in the sixth minute and sealed the win with a goal from Anthony Martial in first-half stoppage time.

The flow continued in the second half. Chelsea brought on Joao Felix and Christian Pulisic to bolster their attack, but United responded with Tyrrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, and Fred. The substitutions paid off for United. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored a brace to break Chelsea’s resolve.
