South Korean men’s tennis standout Kwon Soon-woo (Dangjin City Hall) will compete in the main draw at the U.S. Open, marking his return from a six-month injury.
According to tennis media such as TennisUpdate, Kwon Soon-woo is currently on the main draw list for the US Open.
Kwon’s name was moved from the top of the reserve list to the main draw after Marin Cilic (Croatia) and Denis Shapovalov (Canada) withdrew due to injury the previous day.
Soon-woo Kwon was ranked fifth on the reserve list as of the last seven days, so her direct entry into the main draw was somewhat expected.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Kwon has qualified for the main draw of the US Open.
His previous best results at the US Open were reaching the second round in 2020 and 2022.
Kwon’s career record at the event is 2-4.
Soon-woo Kwon has been focusing on recovering from a shoulder injury since the Exxon Mobile Open in Qatar in February.
She is currently in Florida, USA, training for the US Open.
The US Open, the third major tournament of the year, will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, USA, starting on the 28th.
Both Chilic and Shapovalov had to withdraw from the US Open due to knee injuries.
Chilic was the 2014 US Open winner and had a string of good results afterward, including a runner-up finish at Wimbledon in 2017 and a runner-up finish at the 2018 Australian Open, where he reached a career-high No. 3 ranking. 메이저놀이터
However, his form has since declined, and he has played just two matches this year, dropping to 121st in the rankings.
Shapovalov made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon this year before falling short.
