Son Heung-min is captain for a reason.
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Sheffield United 2-1 in the fifth round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday. The win was Tottenham’s fourth straight and kept them in second place with four wins and one draw (13 points).
The best lineup was used. Son Heung-min, Manor Solomon, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusebski, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, Destiny Udoji, Micky van der Penn, Christian Romero, Pedro Foro, and Guglielmo Vicario started in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The game wasn’t as easy as it seemed. Tottenham consistently pounded on the Sheffield goal, looking to create chances, but were hampered by inaccurate finishing and saves from the opposition goalkeeper. In fact, they even conceded a goal. In the 29th minute, a long throw-in from the right flank was attempted and the ball bounced out of play, heading behind for Gustavo Hamer to head home. The ball hit the far post and headed into the goal.
Spurs finally made a change in the 35th minute. They took off Son, Sarr and Solomon and brought on Brennan, Johnson and Ivan Perisic, and Enze Postecoglou’s mercenary tactics paid off.
It was Giroud who stole the show. In the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time, Perisic sent a corner kick to the near post. Hischalisson rushed in and rattled the net with a deflected header. It didn’t stop there. In the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time, Hyshalisson was brought down by Kulusebski inside the penalty box. Kuluczewski opened the scoring with an unstoppable right-footed shot. Tottenham were able to pull off a dramatic come-from-behind victory thanks to a goal and an assist.
After the game, there was an emotional moment. The “victorious” Tottenham players lined up, held hands, and ran toward the stands, with Son Heung-min sending Heysel, who was behind them, forward. At first, Heung-min was stunned, but then he raised his hands. Heung-min wanted to make sure he stood out in the victory ceremony. 메이저놀이터
The Frenchman has faced a lot of criticism since joining Tottenham last season. For a transfer fee totaling £60 million, he hasn’t been able to live up to the hype and has put up poor stats. This season has been even worse, with no offensive points in the PL. As if to make up for it, he scored two attacking points to lead his team to victory. He also had his ‘captain’ Son Heung-min to thank for that.
