‘Theater PK’ goal sees Uruguay beat Tunisia to reach round of 16

Uruguay advanced to the round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 with a late penalty kick (PK) theater goal to beat Tunisia.

Uruguay earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tunisia in their third Group E match of the tournament on Monday (Sept. 29) at the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina.

With six points, Uruguay clinched second place in the group behind Iraq (W1) and England (W7), who played to a goalless draw earlier in the day, and advanced to the round of 16 for the fifth consecutive time. Tunisia (3 points) slipped to third in the group.

Previously, Uruguay were runners-up at the 2013 tournament, round of 16 at the 2015 tournament, fourth at the 2017 tournament and round of 16 at the 2019 tournament.

With a whopping 34 shots on goal, Uruguay outplayed Tunisia, who managed just six. However, a lack of decisiveness prevented them from capitalizing on their chances, and a penalty kick in stoppage time sealed the deal.

As Uruguay’s Alan Maturo attempted to shoot with his head from the edge of the penalty area, the ball hit the hand of Tunisian defender Khaïs Wahabi, who leapt to block it.

The referee awarded a penalty kick, with Franco Gonzalez stepping up to the plate and converting to seal a 1-0 victory for Uruguay. 먹튀검증

In the final game of the day at the La Plata Stadium, England played Iraq to a scoreless draw.

England, who qualified for the round of 16 early with wins in the first and second rounds, remained unbeaten and secured top spot in the group, while Iraq finished last with one draw and two losses (with one point) and were eliminated.
