Harry Maguire, who has been labeled a free agent by Manchester United, is attracting significant interest in the transfer market.
Maguire, who joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for a record fee of £85 million ($137 billion), the highest ever transfer fee for a defender, is an open market in the current Premier League transfer window.
According to The Sun, four English Premier League clubs are interested in Maguire, with Tottenham leading the chase.
In addition to Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham United, and Newcastle United are also interested in Maguire. All but Spurs are competing in Europe, and all four are considered to be able to afford Maguire’s high wages and transfer fee.
Spurs have publicly declared that manager Enze Postecoglou is in the market for a defender, while Chelsea are looking for a new defender in the wake of Wesley Fofana’s injury. Newcastle United are also looking to bolster their defensive depth with their UEFA Champions League campaign.

The club announced on its official website that it had stripped Maguire of his captain’s armband on Sunday.
Furthermore, Mourinho reportedly had a meeting with Maguire and told him that “it would be better for everyone involved at the club if he left the club this summer”.
As the season wore on, Maguire’s defensive errors, coupled with the team’s declining performance, led to criticism and a diminished standing.
Manchester United’s starting center back line consists of new signing Lisandro Martinez alongside Rafael Varane. Maguire was relegated to the third option, and when Martinez and Varane went down with injuries, Mourinho opted to play left-back Luke Shaw at center back instead of Maguire.
This led local media, including the Manchester Evening News, to expect United to cash in on some players as soon as the 2022-23 season ended to fund transfers, with the highly-paid Maguire being a key target.
With Jonny Evans and Eric Bailly joining United in the summer transfer window on a free transfer and out of contract respectively, the center back position has virtually disappeared.
Maguire is reportedly hoping to stay at United. However, there is some speculation that Maguire may change his mind as the known suitors are bigger clubs with UEFA Champions League qualification or London ties.
