South Korea rose to third in the world rankings on December 31, 2016, and took second place on August 11, 2021.
However, it fell to 3rd place in the ranking announced on December 31, 2021, and was pushed to 4th place on December 31 last year.

The WBSC calculates the ranking based on the performance of each country from the age of 12 to the adult national team in international competitions over the past four years.
Korea, which had been sluggish in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), could not stop the decline in the world rankings.
Korea aimed to advance to the semifinals for the first time in 14 years, but lost to Australia and Japan, who belonged to the same group, and were eliminated in the first round with 2 wins and 2 losses.
621 ranking points were given to Korea, who finished third in Group B.
WBC champion Japan received 1150 ranking points and runner-up USA 953 points. Cuba and Mexico, who advanced to the semifinals, each scored 905 points.
Japan maintained its world No. 1 position (5323 points) this time as well. Japan has not come down from the top of the world rankings since 2014.
