‘WBC Bitterness’ fell to 5th place in Korean baseball world rankings, 1st place in Japan for 10 years

Korea’s World Baseball Ranking, which experienced the bitter taste of being eliminated in the first round of the World Baseball Classic (WBC), fell to 5th. The first was Japan, the second was the United States, and the third was Mexico.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the world baseball rankings for each country on the 28th (Korean time).

In the world ranking announced this time, Korea ranked 5th with 4049 points. After about 3 months, the ranking went down again.

Korea rose to third place in the world rankings announced by the WBSC on December 31, 2016. Then, on August 11, 2021, it seemed to go up to the 2nd place and climb to the 1st place.

And in the world ranking announced this time, it was pushed to 5th place.

The sluggishness at the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) competition also affected the ranking drop. From the 12-year-old (U-12) national team to the adult national team, the WBSC ranks the world based on each country’s performance in international competitions over the past four years.

Korea recorded 2 wins and 2 losses in the first round of the 2023 WBC, finishing third in the group and suffering from elimination. They failed to avoid disaster as they lost consecutively to Australia and Japan.

In 2006, it was Korean baseball that made the feat of semifinal and runner-up in 2009. This time, he challenged world baseball with the goal of advancing to the semifinals for the first time in 14 years. However, following 2013 and 2017, he suffered the humiliation of being eliminated in the first round three times in a row until this tournament. 안전놀이터
